CGSA today

The Calgary Gravity Sports Association (CGSA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for the growth, safety, and visibility of gravity-fueled sports across Calgary — including longboarding, street luge, roller skating, and more.

While the CGSA is independent from grassroots groups like the Calgary Longboard Club and other local skate collectives, we care deeply about their future. Our role is to act as a bridge between these communities and the broader public — including city officials, media, and newcomers who may be unfamiliar or unsure about the culture.

We don’t manage sessions or clubs directly — instead, we work to:

  • Support their efforts through infrastructure advocacy, public awareness, and policy engagement

  • Document and share their impact through stories, events, and data

  • Foster communication across crews, newcomers, and the public

By integrating scattered voices into a unified message, we seek to help gravity sports gain the recognition, respect, and resources they deserve — without ever taking ownership over grassroots scenes ourselves.

A CGSA membership is free or by donation. Help us to cover operational costs and shape the future of gravity sports in Calgary. Leave us your information and you’ll get an invite to the next annual general meeting. A membership is never required to attend any of the sessions listed on our website.

Why join?

  • Advocacy

Your membership helps us reach the critical mass needed to support petitions and advocate for infrastructure like longboard parks, safer paths, and longboarding-inclusive transportation policies.

  • Perks

As a CGSA member, you’ll get access to low-key deals from local skate shops and partner brands — just our way of keeping you rolling. Think gear, service, and the occasional surprise.

  • Input

From applying for grants to deciding where funds go, members are invited to take part in the conversation. This is your community too.

  • Mass

Your membership helps legitimize longboarding as a sport, lifestyle, and mode of transportation. The more of us there are, the harder we are to ignore — by cities, sponsors, and the public.

  • Community

We’re more than just skaters — we’re mentors, friends, organizers, and learners. By joining, you help us create inclusive spaces where new enthusiasts feel welcome and supported.

  • Stewardship

These communities weren’t built overnight — they took time, care, and grit. Membership helps protect what we’ve all built from burnout, overreach, or just fading away.
